Almanach des traditions populaires (1882-1884)

The Almanach des traditions populaires (Almanac of Folk Traditions) was created by Eugène Rolland at Maisonneuve (France) in 1882, “to serve as a link between people from all parts of the world who are involved in the science of popular traditions” (preface to the first issue, 1882). It consisted of three small volumes published annually until 1884. Limited in number, each volume offered a directory of folklorists and a bibliography of recent publications accompanied by a calendar (with a folk theme for 1882, Breton for 1883 and Basque for 1884) and transcriptions of collections of stories, songs and legends. The Almanac was meant to be an “annual review of scientific current events and liaison between researchers”.
