Colette Callier-Boisvert, a French anthropologist born in 1938 in Bangui, Central African Republic, has made a significant contribution to the history of Portuguese anthropology through research that began in the 1960s in the Alto Minho region and introduced innovative questions on mobility, gender and social change. The theme of her doctoral thesis, entitled “La migrante d’origine rurale à Recife, Brésil” (The migrant woman of rural origin in Recife, Brazil), defended in 1965, under the direction of Roger Bastide, announces a truly transatlantic anthropological journey, between two major research axes in Brazil and Portugal.
