Edited by Emile Blémont and Henry Carnoy, Paris.

Founded by Henri Carnoy and Émile Blémont in 1887 with the subtitle Revue générale des contes, légendes, chants, chants, usages, tradition et arts populaires, then Revue internationale du folklore et des sciences qui s’y rattachent, La Tradition appeared on the 15th of each month. The collection consists of seventeen volumes. The journal was interrupted from April 1897 to January 1900. The numbering, which stops in January 1902 (n° 122), is complex: thus in January 1889: “n° 22 - delivery of 15 January 1889 – 3rd year - n°1” which is reversed on the cover “n°1, 3rd year (n° 22)”. Founded by dissidents of the Revue des traditions populaires, La Tradition, and marked by its proximity to literature, it did not succeed in establishing itself on the scientific scene.
