The Lorenzo Dow Turner collection, spanning 1895-1972, is arranged in seven subseries: biographical, academic career, writings, research, photographs, sound recordings, and printed materials. Of particular interest is the collection of photos of the Gullah informants (1930s), Afro-Brazilian informants, and other pictures from Brazil (1941-42); and Africa (1950s), mainly from Nigeria.
